The roman catholic tradition confesses a belief in that there god is a triune god, which means that there is one god and within it are three persons, the father , the son , and the holy spirit. This core belief is found in scripture, which is the inspired word of god and the roman catholic church states this belief in the nicene creed.
The attributes of a father are : supports, protects, loving, leader, wise, provider, teacher, guides, creators. All of these attributes have been used in scripture to describe god. we come to know fathers through their children, so we know god through jesus more profound and personal way than simply reading scripture.
Jesus calls god the father- “ABBA”- an aramatic word for dad. God is much closer to us than a distant father. He is a person to whom we can and should go for love, comfort and guiedence. Though we call god “father” he is beyond biological distinct of male and female, since both men and women are made “in the image and likeness of god”
God created the world out of love not necessity or boardom. He created it out of nothing which cant be done by anything human. What god created is good and he remains present in all his creations large and small. Us humans are the high point of gods creation, we are made in “gods image and likeness”, we have love a conscince and we like nothing else in the universe have a soul, and because we have a soul we possess an imate dignity. Of all gods creaions humans are the only that have a soul and a body, a spiritual and physical dimention, we can distinguish between right and wrong like none of gods other creations. Humans are responsible for taking care of gods creation.
God is both transendent and imanent, meaning he is absolute and beyond, sepparat and apart in a place that is abouve time and space, but he is also within us, together, close to, and in the same time as us.
