Essay Writing Process

Essay Writing Process

The writing process is one which is unique to the individual who is writing, and it is a process which is perfected over time. A person starts to write at an early age and changes his or her style as they gain more knowledge. An individual’s way of writing is much different then it would have been earlier in there life.

I first start by brainstorming the topic in which I’m suppose to write about. This process takes place long before any actual writing takes place. I use the information that I get through brainstorming to determine which topics or aspects, need to be given detail and which can be left with minimal information given.

Once I have finished brainstorming about the given topic, I begin to thank about the structure of the essay. At this point I have finished gathering the information that I need, now I need to but the information down on paper in a logical order and flow.

When writing an essay, you must remember to have flow and to keep the continuity of the overall message. I start off with an opening paragraph that both gets the reader’s attention and informs the reader of the thesis. It is important to remember that the person reading your paper may not care of what the paper is about, so you need to take that into consideration and try to maintain the interest of the reader.

If you’re not interested in what you’re writing on, the person who is reading your paper definitely won’t be. After you have the reader’s attention, you need to begin feeding the information via the main body. This is the area which has all of the juice in it, it’s the area where all of the wonderful information gets dished out. A common occurrence when dealing with the main body is boring the reader to death (this of course, is a bad thing). Again you need to remember to keep the interest of the people, so stay awake. A lot of times the writer of the essay starts spilling way too much information way to fast, which only leads to confusion. Remember not to turn your paper into a textbook, keep it to the point and uncluttered. I put the main body paragraphs in order of importance to me, yet I also must take into consideration the main flow of the essay. Then lastly I implement a closing paragraph. When writing the closing of the essay I try to make it obvious. You don’t want to keep the reader hanging due to it being the end of the paper, there’s no ‘to be continued’ and there’s not going to be another chapter; so end it. It is also important to recap the thesis because the reader may have forgotten what the paper was about (hopefully not, but better safe than sorry).

That is the way which I get my thoughts from my mind to my paper in the form of an essay. I t seems to work well for me, though I know that I can really improve on my formula. I hope by taking this class that I can get even better at my essay writing technique, in both style and speed. Especially in speed.
