I am going to do my citizen essay on my work experience. I done my course at Hewlett Packard in Filton, Bristol.

Hewlett Packard started in 1939 in a garage by two people, Bill Hewlett and David Packard with just $538 of working capital. After a string of failures, their company’s first successful product, an audio oscillator better than anything on the market, earned a U.S. patent and an order from Disney Studios for eight units to help produce the animated film Fantasia. From 1940 to 1950 they moved from their garage to a rented building on Page Mill Road in Palo Alto and then constructed their first HP-owned building that was 10,000 square foot.

While i was on work experience i helped in a large variety of jobs mainly updating and maintaining computer systems. I also helped edit and maintain spreadsheets for people who were buying products of them. This helped them keep deadlines and important dates.

There are approximately 5000 people on site at Hewlett Packard in Filton, these employees work in many different areas of the complex. There is a special dedicated area for research called HP Labs. There are on hand technicians and testing facilities. Most of the people work in office spaces as this is mainly what goes on at the Filton base. There is an on hand canteen which can seat up to 1000 employees at a time and many services for the employees, there is also a sports facilities to use.

I worked with a large number of employees Both Upgrading and fixing systems. I designed a program which showed the time in 3 countries, Japan, America, and England, at a time on a program called Liberty Basic. My aim was to create another 3 but i did not have enough time.

I Think my work experience went well. I made a lot of new friends and got a very good reply from the person who employed me. If i were to do it again i would be more active and work a lot harder.
