Whether or not homosexuality is biological has never been scientifically proven. Recently, however, there have been more studies that suggest it is not biological. According to Dr. Moberly 85%-90% of lesbians were victims of sexual abuse (Berean League, 1991). A man or woman's sexual preference is determined by a stimulus that causes a responsive behavior. Homosexuality is, therefore, learned. Research has not found enough evidence to say that people are "born gay".

Although, at times, studies show that homosexuality may be inherited, after careful observations the study has usually been discounted. No researcher has found any difference between a heterosexual male and a homosexual male that was not caused by their behavior. This says that there are differences, but those differences were responses to a specific stimulus. Even homosexuals themselves say that their sexual preference was the result of social or environmental influences. In 1983, the Family Research Institute conducted an experiment with 3,400 homosexuals. Eighty percent of those men said that their homosexuality was learned (Cameron, 1999).

Researchers have now also reported that sexual conduct is influenced by cultural factors- especially religious convictions. Reports show that there is less homosexual activity among all religiously active groups than in groups that are not religiously active. Men and women raised in homes where religion is not a big factor are four times more likely to become homosexuals than those who were raised in homes where religion is important. What this research demonstrates is that when people believe that homosexuality is wrong they are less likely to become homosexuals (Cameron, 1999).

"In a large random sample 88% of women currently claiming lesbian attraction and 73% of men claiming to currently enjoy homosexual sex, said that they had been sexually aroused by they opposite sex" (Cameron, 1999, pg 4). When 904 random men where asked questions about their sex lives, it was reported that less than 1% of men had only had sex with men during their lives. Most homosexual men have been sexually aroused by, had sexual relations with, and have even fallen in love with someone from the opposite sex. These studies are illustrating how it is not biological because many of these men and women are also attracted to a member of the opposite sex. Many homosexuals can change their sexual preference (Cameron, 1999).

Probably the research that best shows that homosexuality can not be biological is the fact that there are many ex-homosexuals. There are homosexuals who have been gay for several years and then chose not only to change their habits, but the object of their desire. Some reasons for this change can be the result of psychotherapy or religious conversions. In 1984, a study reported that almost 2% of heterosexuals considered themselves to be homosexuals at one point in their lives. If, in fact, homosexuality was biological then these men and women "born gay" could never change sexual preference, but studies show that many men and women have changed and become heterosexuals. That shows that homosexuality can not be biological (Cameron, 1999).

Many scientists are still baffled by the cause of homosexuality. Whether homosexuality is biological or not has never been scientifically proven, but recently more studies demonstrate that people who are homosexuals are not "born gay". Many things can cause homosexual desire. Any homosexual experience, family abnormality, or unusual sexual experience can cause homosexual desire. Even a man or a woman's culture can affect their religious preference. Research shows that homosexuality is not biological, and it can be changed.
